What the Ombuds Office Does:
- Listens to concerns
- Reviews possible options
- Explains university policies and procedures
- Facilitates communication between people
- Provides information about formal and informal grievance options
- Mediates as appropriate
- Makes referrals
- Points out patterns of problems/complaints to administrators
What the Ombuds Office Does Not Do:
- Tell people what they should do
- Take sides in a dispute
- Determine guilt or innocence
- Receive official “notice” for the university about complaints
- Give legal advice
